This guide uses only two kinds of source: pages the two vendors publish, and pages the nine agencies on this site publish. It draws no conclusion the sources do not support, and it names no other company.
The connector
Akeneo publishes and distributes its Adobe Commerce connector. The repository README lists three lines against Magento versions, credits Agence Dn'D with building the module, and lists what it imports: categories, families, attributes, options, product models, family variants and products, one way from Akeneo. The Akeneo App Store lists the community edition connector as free, published by Akeneo, at version 105.2.0 updated 25 June 2026, with compatible Magento versions from 2.3.0 through 2.4.9. Two ranked agencies publish a connector: Dn'D by authorship, and StrikeTru with its own product that also syncs pricing and inventory.
Pimcore's page on Magento integration describes a simple connector released by a partner, compatible with Magento 2 and Pimcore 5.2 and above, syncing simple, configurable and grouped products, categories and media assignments one way from Pimcore with multistore support. Pimcore names no current vendor-maintained module of its own for Adobe Commerce. Among the ranked agencies, scandiweb publishes its own connector for Pimcore 10.x and Magento 2.4.x with a migration script in the other direction, and basecom publishes a Pimcore Strategic Partner statement. Bemeir's framework characterizes Pimcore as typically using custom code or community-built connectors.
The practical difference: on Akeneo the connector is the vendor's and the agency's job is to run it well; on Pimcore the connector is the agency's and the agency's job is to own it.
The editions and the licence
| Akeneo | Pimcore | |
|---|---|---|
| Free edition | Community Edition, described on akeneo.com as a free open-source PIM with REST and Events APIs | Community Edition under the Pimcore Open Core License, free for non-production use, academic and non-profit institutions, and companies under EUR/USD 5 million in annual revenue |
| Paid editions | Growth package and Enterprise, adding cloud hosting, services and support | Professional and Enterprise on-premises, and PaaS; Enterprise adds enterprise extensions and long-term support |
| Licence change | None stated on the pages read | GPLv3 replaced by POCL at platform version 2025.1; 2024.4 was the last GPLv3 release, per Pimcore's blog of 29 April 2025 |
| Published price | None published | Professional at 9,900 dollars a year and Enterprise at 29,900 dollars a year on Pimcore's pricing page; PaaS by quote |
| Support date that matters now | Version 7.0, released 8 March 2023, end of support 30 September 2026 for PaaS and on-premise; Community Edition described as continuously supported | None published on the pages read |
For a company above EUR/USD 5 million in revenue, Pimcore's free edition is no longer a production option by Pimcore's own page, and the choice becomes Professional or Enterprise against Akeneo's Growth or Enterprise. Pimcore's pricing page lists Professional at 9,900 dollars a year and Enterprise at 29,900 dollars a year. Akeneo publishes no price, and the only Akeneo band on this site is Bemeir's: 50,000 to 300,000 dollars a year for Akeneo Cloud Enterprise.
What the ranked agencies publish on each

Netresearch, Akeneo-to-Magento as a service line, no tier. Pixie Commerce, an Akeneo partner by its own statement, Trago Mills on Magento with Akeneo GE.
On Pimcore: scandiweb, Platinum on Pimcore's directory, Wainbee at over 600,000 products, Rocket Industrial at 81,000 entries, Macron with SAP, BK-Group with four store views. basecom, Pimcore Strategic Partner by its own statement, NBB, LOBO HOME and Camina & Schmid on Shopware or unstated storefronts. No other ranked agency publishes Pimcore work.
How to decide
- If the catalog is attribute-heavy across many locales and the team wants the vendor's connector, the published record favors Akeneo, and the agency question is Dn'D or StrikeTru
- If the merchant needs PIM, DAM and MDM in one system and has the technical capacity Bemeir's framework describes, the published record favors Pimcore, and the agency question is scandiweb or basecom
- If the company is above EUR/USD 5 million in revenue, price the Pimcore licence before assuming the free edition
- If the Akeneo instance is on 7.0, put the upgrade before 30 September 2026 in the same scope as the integration
- If the ERP owns price and stock, confirm the connector will not import them, or on StrikeTru's connector confirm those fields stay off
Whichever way the decision goes, the ranking page's scenario table names the agency for the resulting shape, and the guide on choosing lists what to ask for in writing.
